So Behind for the Holidays

After spending last week in Florida for cheerleading nationals and playing catch up this week, I feel so out of it. As much as I love this time of year, I feel more hectic than ever, and I think it’s the Florida trip that did me in. My daughter’s squad didn’t place (1st, 2nd, or 3rd) and I don’t know yet how they did, but they performed phenomenally. I am so very proud of her. The competition was tough — we were up against about 12 other squads, 2 of which beat us regionally. We had fun for the week. The kids swam in the hotel pool one day and we drove to the beach another day.

Of course, I’m paying for that fun now. I got my revision letter for book 2 while I was gone. And my agent got back to me about book 3. Luckily neither needs major revisions, but they’ll still take time. The biggest downside to that is that I can’t focus on writing something new. And it’s the new I really like. Add in the holidays, shopping, family visiting, and I’m done. (That all doesn’t even take into consideration that I have a book launch and tour the first week of the year.)

The one thing I look forward to most this season is this weekend. It’s cookie baking weekend. YAY! Although it’s a ton of work, it’s fun to hang out with my best friend and bake all day. And I do mean ALL day — like 2 hours and about 20 different kinds of cookies. Right now, however, I don’t even know what I’m baking and I haven’t done any shopping. Sure, there are the cookies I know I’ll bake, like almond crescents and thumbprints and 6-layer cookies, but each year we usually like to try one or 2 new things. I don’t know if that’s gonna happen this year. I haven’t cracked a cookbook or a magazine all season. If you have any fabulous suggestions, I’m all ears.

What’s the one thing you look forward to the most during the holiday season?
